Doctors of the Chittagong Eye Hospital have conducted a successful eye surgery on 20 children – both Rohingyas and locals from Cox’s Bazar – under the hospital’s surgical and eye care programme for the Rohingya children in Teknaf’s refugee camps.
After the surgery, the children regained their sight when the blindfold was removed on Thursday.
Besides, all necessary medicines and relevant services were provided to the children, reads a press release issued by the hospital.
Nasimul Gani Chowdhury, senior consultant of the hospital, led the surgery assisted by other doctors at the health facility.
The surgery was performed at the hospital under the auspices of the Qatar Creative Vision (QCV) Expanding Eye Care in South East Bangladesh project – being implemented by Orbis International with the support of Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD).
Since the Rohingya refugee camps in Cox's Bazaar do not have any eye surgery facility, the Chittagong Eye Hospital has come forward with the initiative, the release added.
