Mobile financial service provider Nagad said it has been facing attacks on different social media platforms from an organised group.
Besides, Nagad is facing attacks “in other ways” too, the company said in a press release on Thursday.
“In recent time, the pace of such attacks increased manifold,” it added.
An organised group is spreading rumours against the company to destroy its fame earned in the last two and half years, believes Nagad Managing Director Tanvir A Mishuk.
He urged the country’s people not to pay heed to the rumours.
“We are working to make the lives of people digital and we are also committed to ensuring the highest security of their money,” Mishuk added.
“It was only Nagad who broke the monopoly in the MFS industry, which is why false information and propaganda is being spread against Nagad,” said Md Siraz Uddin, director-general of the Postal Department that initiated Nagad as its digital financial service.
“I hope they (the vested quarter) will refrain themselves in the coming days. We are always ready to refute any propaganda against the government services.”
“We need to remember spreading propaganda against a government wing is a serious offencw,” Siraz added.
Earlier, Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar and Secretary Md Afzal Hossain called the country`s people for abstaining from spreading rumours and misinformation against Nagad.
The release said propaganda against Nagad is spreading from some unauthentic Facebook accounts, false information from various parts of the country.
“Apparently, a vested quarter is facilitating such practices. These fake Facebook accounts are also distorting Nagad’s logo. Their intention is to hype the Nagad’s users and beneficiaries to abandon the service,” the release said, adding that Nagad authorities are seriously observing the situation and taking legal actions.
Earlier this month, a group with ill-motive attacked on the Nagad app. With the help of some hired people, they gave a negative review to the app to lower its rating, the release reads.
Nagad said its innovative service put an end to the decade-long customer suffering in the MFS industry. As a result, its popularity skyrocketed.
In the last two and a half years, Nagad acquired 5.5 crore customer with a daily average transaction of more than Tk 700 crore.
Such popularity prompted the vested quarter to launch attacks after attacks from jealousy, Nagad believes.
In February, the group spread misinformation by distributing more than 3.5 lakh leaflets against Nagad.
In this connection, Nagad filed a case. Following a court order, the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) ran an investigation and found that a competitor of Nagad was the mastermind behind the propaganda.
Some senior officials of that company led the ill campaign
