Chowdhury Nafeez Sarafat’s wife becomes director of Southeast Bank

Padma Bank Chairman Chowdhury Nafeez Sarafat’s spouse Anjuman Ara Shahid has become a director of Southeast Bank Limited, which was established in 1995.

Anjuman Ara’s nomination as a director has been approved at a recent meeting of the board of directors and Bangladesh Bank has also given its nod to the appointment, M Kamal Hossain, managing director of the bank, told the Business Insider Bangladesh on Thursday.

Prior to her appointment in Southeast Bank, Anjuman Ara was the chairman of Strategic Finance and Investment Limited, a non-bank financial institution. She resigned from the financial institution to become a director of the bank.

She is also the vice-chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Canadian University of Bangladesh. She is also a shareholder of Padma Bank ((formerly Farmers Bank).

According to the relevant sources, the meeting of the board of directors of Southeast Bank was held on June 8. At the meeting, Alamgir Kabir, chairman of the bank, placed the proposal to appoint Anjuman Ara as a director and got the board’s approval.

Then on June 9, Southeast Bank applied to Bangladesh Bank for approval and the BB gave a no-objection letter for her appointment.

Earlier in January this year, an application was forwarded to the BB for the appointment of Chowdhury Rahib Sarafat, son of Chowdhury Nafeez Sarafat, as a director of Southeast Bank.

But the central bank did not give its nod to Chowdhury Rahib as he was only 18/19 years old.
