NBR awards Grameenphone as highest taxpayer for fifth time in a row

Grameenphone has received the honour of being the highest taxpayer of the telecommunication industry from the National Board of Revenue (NBR) for the Tax Year of 2019-2020.
The Tax Card and Award Giving Ceremony 2020 took place on February 11 at the NBR headquarters, reads a press release.
Grameenphone CEO Yasir Azman and CFO Jens Becker received the tax card, certificate, and crest from the State Minister of Public Administration Farhad Hossain and Chairman of National Board of Revenue Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem.
Grameenphone previously won the award for Tax Year 2015-2016, 2016-2017, 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 in the telecommunication category.
On this occasion, Yasir Azman said, "The recognition by NBR makes us feel honoured and humbled. During the unprecedented challenging time in 2020, NBR has been a great help by extending all-out timely support in various aspects of our operation to serve the nation through valuable connectivity solutions.
"We are thankful to NBR for their encouragement. This recognition will inspire us to innovate and contribute more to the development and digitalization of Bangladesh by doing things right. We look forward to working together in achieving Bangladesh's vision of becoming a high-income country by 2041," he added.
Since its inception to December 31, 2020, total contribution by Grameenphone to the national exchequer has been Tk85,373 crore, which includes Tk58,948 crore contribution to NBR as direct and indirect tax, Tk8,898 crore withholding tax, and Tk17,527 crore contribution to BTRC.
NBR has selected 141 taxpayers, out of which 76 individual taxpayers have received the recognition along with 53 corporate taxpayers and 12 in other categories.
