BEXIMCO acquires 5.25% stakes in BSC

BEXIMCO Limited on Monday announced that it has bought a 5.25 percent stake in state-owned Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) from the secondary market, the company said in a disclosure posted on the Dhaka Stock Exchange.
Now Beximco has applied for the directorship in BSC as it has acquired adequate shares to be on the board of directors of the Bangladesh Shipping Corporation.
“The Company (BEXIMCO) has informed that the board of directors of the company has decided to participate to the board of directors of Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) being a member of the said Company (that) acquired 8008,090 shares of Tk 10 each in BSC being 5.25% of its total holdings,” BEXIMCO.
Though Beximco did not disclose the amount it has spent to buy the shares, market prices of BSC show it would be around Tk 100 crore.
Salman F Rahman who is serving as the Private Sector Industry and Investment Adviser to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is also the vice chairman of BEXIMCO Group.
