Unilever Bangladesh (UBL) has installed an effluent treatment plant in its soap manufacturing factory at Kalurghat in Chattogram.

Netherlands Ambassador to BangladeshHarry Verweij inaugurated the plant on Thursday, said a press release.

Kedar Lele, chairman and managing director of Unilever Bangladesh, Ruhul Quddus Khan, its supply chain director, Siddharth Nandy, factory director and Shamima Akhter, head of corporate affairs, were present, among others, in the event. 

“This is a great opportunity to visit the Kalurghat Factory of UBL, which carries a historical value. I am delighted witnessing the factory’s operation which maintains hygiene and safety,” Harry Verweij said.

ETP is an important part of the modern production facility, the release says, which plays a crucial role for the industry as a whole. It is a sustainable solution to reutilizing, recycle industrial liquid wastes.

Besides, the plant can clean contaminated water.

This modern high-tech ETP plant of Unielver will improve its productivity immensely reducing manual labour and safety hazards, the company hoped.

The expanded plant can handle 400 tons of effluent per day with 12000 chemical oxygen, it informed.

Established in 1964, the first soap manufacturing unit of Unilever is now producing 26 products in 11 categories, the release said.
