Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Sumaiya Aziz has made history by being elected as a director of the prestigious Gulshan Club in the capital.

She is the first female barrister to hold this position in the club's history, reports a press release.

A total of 1,096 members of the club exercised their voting rights amidst a congenial atmosphere on December 23.

Sumaiya Aziz secured the position of director with an impressive 750 votes while Businessman Anwar Rashid has been elected as the president of the 11-member board of directors.

In her reaction, Sumaiya Aziz expressed her gratitude stating, “There is no word to convey my admiration for the respect extended to me by the club members. I am wholeheartedly committed to offering comprehensive legal services to all members of the club, with a special focus on supporting women members.”

Sumaiya Aziz is a renowned lawyer of the Supreme Court and she serves as the managing partner of Legal Capital, a famous legal consultancy firm.

Engaged as a legal consultant, she provides expertise to several prominent companies in Bangladesh, including Bashundhara Group, as well as various embassies located in Bangladesh.

She is also a member of several prestigious clubs in the capital, including the Dhaka Club, Banani Club, Purbachal Club and Gulshan Club.

Additionally, she serves as one of the legal advisors of the Banani Club.

Notably, Barrister Aziz achieved success in the Supreme Court by advocating for the rights of all club members in the country to enjoy home entertainment, housing and playing cards.

Her father Dr. Azizur Rahman is a former secretary of the government and her mother, Sabiha Sultana, served as general manager of Sonali Bank.

It may be pointed out that the Gulshan Club was established with the collective efforts of some prominent individuals in the area in 1978.

Later, it was registered under the Joint Stock Companies Act of 1913. It is officially called Gulshan Club Limited.

At the heart of the Gulshan Club is the collective kinship among its members. It prides itself on being more than just a Club, but a home away from home.

The Club was set up on the belief that life is best spent in the company of loved ones, and is presently the only family Club in Bangladesh.

Governing administrations, throughout the years, have been working relentlessly to strengthen the bond and fellowship among its members, as well as bringing families closer together through arts, culture, sports and various initiatives and events.

The Members of the Gulshan Club are some of the most illustrious names in the country, which includes business leaders, bureaucrats, academicians, artists, bankers, journalists, celebrities, delegates, and public figures. Gulshan Club is considered to be one of the most elite Clubs in Bangladesh.
