The World Economic Forum (WEF) recently recognised the sustainable business practices of Denim Expert and Green Delta Insurance in its New Champion Awards, which honours companies exploring business models, technologies and sustainable growth strategies that will be needed in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
The Switzerland-based non-governmental organisation also gave both companies honourable mention in the Excellence in Sustainability category.
Chattogram-based Denim Expert, established in 2009, is working to promote sustainability and inclusivity in the apparel industry, WEF said on its website. In 2019, the firm set sustainable goals and targets across several areas, including reducing consumption of energy and water, carbon dioxide emissions and waste generation.
In association with the USAID, the firm is also working to provide opportunities to transgender people and human trafficking survivors.
Green Delta Insurance, the largest insurer in Bangladesh, worked with the ministry of health to provide affordable universal health coverage that now impacts 82,000 households directly and 65,000 people indirectly, WEF added.
