VAT officials seized computers, from which they recovered the actual sales figures of the resort from 2018 to date.
The resort had allegedly dodged around Tk17.47 lakh VAT alone in October. Similar payment irregularities were found for other months as well.
Sairu Resort had been paying an average of around Tk1 lakh VAT per month, against an actual payable amount of around Tk15 lakh per month per its monthly sales, the press release adds.
authorities collected VAT from the guests, but it did not pay the funds to the state. Rather, they financially benefited from evasion, said VAT intelligence officials.
The resort is located on Chimbuk road, 28 kilometres away from Bandarban district.
