NESTLÉ Bangladesh receives first certificate of recordation

Nestlé Bangladesh Limited has obtained the certificate of recordation from the Customs House at the Inland Container Depot (ICD) at Dhaka's Kamalapur.

It is worth mentioning that this is the first registration under the Intellectual Property Enforcement (Import and Export) Rules, 2019, reads a press release.

In order to protect Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) of local and international business organisations of Bangladesh against unauthorised import and export which lead to violation of IPR and dispirit the foreign investment prospectus in the country, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has legislated Intellectual Property Rights Enforcement (Import and Export) Rules, 2019.

The initiative is not only to attract foreign investment in the country, but also to improve employability opportunities and help economic growth by increasing revenue income of government.

The right holder/licensee of the intellectual property of a product under the said Rules has the right to apply for registration before customs authority towards preventing the importation or export of goods for commercial purposes by improperly infringing the intellectual property of the importer or exporter as a trademark, patent, design, copyright or geographical indicator.

Following this, Nestlé Bangladesh applied for registration – the application was then verified and approved, adds the release.

On behalf of ICD Kamalapur Customs Authority, Commissioner Mobara Khanam, Additional Commissioner Khandakar Nazmul Haque, Joint Commissioner Sifat A Maryam and other customs officials were present.

Debabrata Roy Chowdhury, director (Legal & Tax) and company secretary of Nestlé Bangladesh, Foysol Ahamed, legal and compliance manager of Nestlé, and Barrister ABM Hamidul Mishbah, a lawyer of Nestlé Bangladesh and founder of Bangladesh Intellectual Property Forum, were also present.
