The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) President Faruque Hassan urged the apparel factory owners, employees, workers and their family members to keep cleaned factories and their households regularly to prevent the spread of dengue and chikungunya.
He came up with the call while addressing a programme of Uni Garments in Chittagong on Wednesday, as a part of BGMEA initiative to raise mass awareness against the diseases, said a press release.
“Dengue is transmitted by Aedes mosquito which can easily breed in stagnant water. So, pay attention to the breeding grounds of Aedes mosquitoes,” said Faruque.
The BGMEA president also handed out dengue prevention leaflets among the garment employees and workers.
“Dengue outbreak can be prevented by taking precautionary measures properly,” said Syed Nazrul Islam, first vice-president of BGMEA at the program.
Later, the BGMEA leaders took part in a tree plantation program to observe the National Mourning Day and to pay tribute to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and to those who were martyred on August 15, 1975.
They planted saplings to mark the day.
Earlier, BGMEA circulated ten-point guidelines among all the member factories to follow to prevent the spread of dengue and chikungunya.
