BASIC Bank Limited has launched a dual currency contactless credit card, making it the first state-owned bank to do so.

Professor Dr Md Abul Hashem, chairman of the board of directors of the bank, joined a virtual opening ceremony arranged by the bank’s head Office on Sunday and inaugrated the card service.

Managing Director of BASIC Bank Md Rafiqul Alam presided over the function where directors of the board Md Shaheb Ali Mridha, Md Razib Parvez and Md Rafiqul Islam participated as well, according to a press release.

Professor Dr Hashem said that BASIC Bank had marked the progress of another step to meet customer demands in terms of technology-oriented banking services.

With Visa, an international card service, customers can make their transactions easily both at home and abroad.

Managing Director Rafiqul Alam said that the bank is the pioneer among all the state-owned banks to launch Visa contactless credit card service.

The special advantage of this card in the present era of coronavirus pandemic is that transactions are possible without any touch. Cardholders will be able to enjoy speedy and easier transactions without entering their cards at the POS terminal.

In addition, customers will get discounts at various outlets while shopping and paying food bills. There will be real-time SMS facility and e-alert service for transactions.

This card uses EMV chip, which will facilitate maximum security for a transaction.

In addition, up to 50% of the credit limit can be withdrawn in cash. The money can also be transferred to other accounts.
