Two Chinese companies are going to invest $28.69 million, equivalent to Tk244 crore, in manufacturing of non-woven personal protective equipment (PPE) and steel structural items and ready-mix concrete.

CCECC Bangladesh Ltd., a subsidiary of China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation Ltd., will invest $15.97 million (Tk136 crore) to produce steel construction items and ready-mix concrete. They will name the factory Mirsarai Fabrication Ltd.

JeiHong Medical Products (BD) Ltd – a subsidiary concern of Kunshan JieHong Non-Woven Products Ltd, Kunshan City, Jiangshu Province, China – will invest Tk108 crore, equivalent to $12.72 million, to manufacture non-woven PPE products.

Both the Chinese companies will sign land lease agreement with the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) to get land for the factories at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar (BSMSN) in Mirsarai on Monday.

CCECC Bangladesh Ltd has sought 10 acres of land and JeiHong 8 acres.

Paban Chowdhry, executive chairman of BEZA, said these investments are encouraging as they will produce import-substitute products.

He said their investment is an example that the foreign investors have the confidence in Bangladesh.

Chowdhury is expecting to hand over necessary land within next six months and they will be able to start construction of factories within next June.
