Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal has said Bangladesh's economy is doing quite well even amid the hardship and uncertainty caused by the Covid-19 pandemic globally.
“If you look at the different countries’ economies, their growth rates declined due to the pandemic,” he told reporters in response to a question after a virtual meeting of the cabinet committee on public purchase on Wednesday.
He said Bangladesh had announced the budget during the pandemic, which was a big challenge. “The finance division will recast the budget once needed considering the present situation.”
In reply to another question, Kamal said, “The government for the first time will export 50,000 tonnes of urea fertiliser to Nepal, which will brighten our image.”
The Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation recently signed an agreement with Krishi Samagri Company Limited of Nepal to export urea fertiliser to Nepal. Under the agreement, Karnaphuli Fertiliser Company Limited (Kafco) will procure 50,000 tonnes of urea for Nepal.
