Cabinet approves rice import from India

The Cabinet Committee on Public Purchase has approved the food ministry’s proposal to import 50,000 tonnes of parboiled non-Basmati rice from India in the current fiscal.
Additional Cabinet Secretary Abu Saleh Mostafa Kamal confirmed the matter to reporters through an online briefing after the meeting on Wednesday.
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal chaired the meeting virtually from aboard.
MS PK Agri link Ltd of Birbhum district in the West Bengal of India, which was selected through international tender procedure, will supply the rice worth Tk168 crore. A kilogram of rice will cost Tk33.07.
