Australia to donate AUS $1mn for Bangladesh’s flood-hit people: Envoy

Australia would donate AUS $1 million to a charity for the flood-affected people of Bangladesh, Acting Australian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Nardia Simpson said on THursday.
The Australian envoy made the announcement as she paid a courtesy call on Chief Adviser to the interim government Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna in Dhaka, reports BSS.
During the meeting, Simpson condoled the loss of lives during the student-led revolution and said Australia was committed to working with the interim government of Bangladesh.
They discussed various issues, including the security of the Bay of Bengal, the Rohingya crisis, human rights, economic corporations, tax tariffs and minority issues.
The envoy said Australia is now promoting peace building, cultural, and leadership issues in the Rohingya camps.
Chief Adviser Prof Yunus thanked the country for her gesture and sought investment, enhanced trade and other assistance of Australia.
