The second tube of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel beneath the Karnaphuli river will be opened to traffic Friday midnight, Planning Minister MA Mannan said on Tuesday.
The planning minister came up with the announcement at a press conference after a meeting of the National Economic Council at the NEC conference room of the planning ministry, in the capital.
The Planning Minister said, “During the ECNEC meeting, we came to know that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel (Karnaphuli Tunnel) was supposed to be opened in December. However, as the works have been completed, it is being opened on Friday,”
“This project is ending ahead of time. The main work is now coming to an end but much more remains to be done,” he said.
The minister further said completion of a project ahead of time is a matter of great joy for the government as people often complain about the dragging of project duration in the country.
