The government has retreated from constructing a 4-lane Dhaka-Chattogram Highway project on the basis of Public-Private Partnership (PPP).
Now, the Dhaka-Chittagong highway will be financed by the government, additional secretary to the cabinet division Shamsul Arefin told journalists on Sunday.
There would be a service lane on each way of the roads which will also be used by slow moving vehicles, he said.
The cabinet committee on economic affairs held a virtual meeting at the secretariat to discuss, among other things, various aspects of Dhaka-Chattogram highway.
While responding to a question, the additional secretary said the government had spent Tk 100 crore for carrying out the feasibility study for the specially designed 4-lane Dhaka-Chattogram highway.
According to the Roads and Highways Department under Ministry of Road, Transport and Bridges, a proposal to appoint a consultant for the construction of the separate service lane was approved in the meeting. The consultant would receive Tk 87.38 crore for designing the service lane.
