Chattogram port to buy 11 gantry cranes for Tk130 crore

The Chittagong Port Authority is going to buy 11 rubber-tired gantry cranes for quick and timely delivery of goods.
For a total cost of Tk130.17 crore, the cranes will be procured under the project titled Procurement of Equipment for Different Yards and Terminals of Chittagong Port under self-financed implementation by the port authority.
This project is being implemented by the Chittagong Port Authority under the Ministry of Shipping at an estimated cost of Tk914.38 crore.
According to shipping ministry sources, out of the 11 gantry cranes, five will be procured for the Chattogram container terminal and the remaining six for the new mooring container terminal.
The proposal for procurement of the cranes will be placed before the Cabinet Committee on Public Purchase on Wednesday, which will be presided over by Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal.
The tender was initially called on July 30, but the deadline for pre-tender meeting and tender submission by Chittagong Port Authority was extended to September due to the coronavirus pandemic.
During this time, nine companies collected tender documents and four tenders were submitted to the relevant authority within the stipulated time.
The Tender Handling Committee was constituted by the Chittagong Port Authority and the Tender Evaluation Committee was constituted by the Ministry of Shipping for the purpose of opening and evaluating the tenders.
Tenders received by the tender handling committee was opened on September 29 in front of the representatives of the tenderers present.
After opening the tenders, the tenders were evaluated by the Tender Evaluation Committee, which submitted the technical evaluation report on October 21 and the financial evaluation report on November 2.
A total of Tk59.34 crore quoted by Trans Gulf Port Cranes LLC in UAE for five gantry cranes and Tk70.83 crore quoted by Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Company Limited of China for the supply of six cranes were recommended for approval by the two boards.
These quotations were later approved by the Chittagong Port Authority and forwarded to the shipping ministry.
