Steps against illegal raw jute stockpiling: Minister

The government will launch a special operation against illegal stockpiles of raw jute in order to ensure supply of the product in the domestic market and facilitate the flow of export, said Golam Dastagir Gazi, the minister for the Ministry of Textiles and Jute.

The minister came with the information while a meeting at his secretariat office on Sunday with Bangladesh Jute Association, Bangladesh Jute Mills Association, and Bangladesh Jute Spinners Association.

The minister said the production of jute mills is at risk for the recent raw jute crisis in the country.

“In this situation, the government will take effective measures to ensure the supply of raw jute to continue the trend of jute and jute products’ export,” he said.

It is mentionable that in the first six months (July-December) of the current 2021-22 fiscal year, Bangladesh earned $698 million by exporting jute and jute products.
