The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has said a proposal to increase gas prices by 117 percent is not realistic amid the current global situation.
Abdul Jalil, chairman of the BERC, came up with the observation at a public hearing on the gas price hike at BIAM Auditorium in the capital on Tuesday.
“No results would be given based on homological, weak information,” he said.
The BERC chairman further added, “The social impact of post-price hike should have been assessed, but the companies have avoided that during their price hiking applications.”
BERC members Maqbool E Elahi Chowdhury, Bazlur Rahman, Mohammad Abu Farooq, and Mohammad Kamruzzaman were present in the hearing led by the chairman Abdul Jalil.
