Toll has been levied on various modes of transports travelling on the Dhaka-Mawa-Bhanga Expressway from next month onwards, according to a decision of the Road Transport and Highways Division.

As per the interim rate of the base toll of Tk 10, a medium-sized truck will have to pay Tk 550 for using the 55-kilometre expressway and the amount will be an addition to the toll to be given for crossing the Padma Bridge.

The Road Transport and Highways Division issued a circular in this regard on Sunday.

According to an official of the division, the toll per kilometre for a medium-sized truck (two-axle) is considered the base toll.

A total of 35-kilometre long highway from Dhaka to Mawa and 20-kilometre from Pancchar of Madaripur to Bhanga of Faridpur has been designated as expressway.

This section of the highway cut travel time and ensure smooth and comfortable journey of the travelers of 22 southwestern districts.

The expressway has connected the approach roads of the 6.15-kilometer Padma Multipurpose Bridge, at both the ends.

A gazette notification was published in 2019 naming the expressway after Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Earlier, the government had issued a notification fixing the toll rates of Padma Multipurpose Bridge.

As per the notification, the one-way toll rate for crossing the bridge for motorbikes has been at Tk 100, Tk 750 for jeeps, Tk 1,200 for pick-up vans, Tk 1,300 for microbuses, Tk 1,400 for minibuses, Tk 2,000 for medium buses, and Tk 2,400 for large buses.

The rate for small trucks (up to 5 tonnes) was set at Tk 1,600, for trucks with capacity of 5-8 tonnes Tk 2,800, Tk 5,500 for three-axle trucks, Tk 6,000 for trailer trucks (up to four-axle) , and Tk 6,000 for trailers over four-axles and Tk 1,500 extra for each axles.

The tolls came into effect from Sunday.
