India is set to impose an anti-dumping duty (ADD) on float glass exports from Bangladesh and Thailand to shield its domestic industries.

After concluding its investigation, the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) under the commerce ministry has recommended the ADD on imports of ‘clear float glass’ from these two countries.

“The authority recommends imposition of the anti-dumping duties on the imports of the subject goods…,” the directorate has said in a notification issued on June 30.

DGTR carried out the probe following a petition filed by M/s Asahi India Glass Ltd., M/s Gold Plus Glass Industry Limited, M/s Sisecam Flat Glass India Private Limited, and M/s Saint-Gobain India (Pvt.) Limited filed an application before the Designated Authority seeking initiation of an anti-dumping investigation on imports of Clear Float Glass from Bangladesh and Thailand.

Three Bangladeshi companies – Nasir Glass, PHP Float Glass and Usmania Glass – export their products to India, according to industry insiders.

DGTR sent a set of questions to these three Bangladeshi companies, but only Nasir Float Glass Industries Limited responded and replied to the queries, DGTR said in its findings.

Earlier in January 2017, India imposed ADD on jute goods from Bangladesh and the restriction is still on despite Bangladesh's frequent efforts.
