Bangladesh envoy to Maldives meets FBCCI President Sheikh Fazle Fahim

Bangladesh High Commissioner to the Republic of Maldives Rear Admiral Nazmul Hassan paid a courtesy call to Sheikh Fazle Fahim, president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) on Thursday.
The meeting was held at FBCCI Icon Tower in the capital’s Motijheel area, reads a press release.
High Commissioner Rear Admiral Nazmul Hassan said Maldives’ economy is heavily import-oriented for most of its products and has immense opportunity of export whereas Bangladesh has significant number of migrant workers.
In response, FBCCI President Sheikh Fazle Fahim said Bangladeshi vegetables, livestock, poultry, pharmaceuticals, processed food, frozen food, etc. can be exported to Maldives.
He said a business delegation from Maldives may visit Bangladesh accompanying the president of Maldives tentatively during the third week of March
FBCCI and Maldives National Chamber of Commerce and Industry may jointly organize a business summit during the visit, Sheikh Fazle Fahim added.
In the meeting, the FBCCI President said there is a chance of capacity building of Bangladesh’s industrial fishing utilizing Maldives expertise (Tuna production process) as well as joint collaboration in resort and hotel supply chain.
He stressed on establishing direct Bangladesh-Maldives Shipping line for market diversification of Bangladesh and said Outward Foreign Direct Investment (OFDI) opportunities may be explored in the hospitality sector in Maldives.
FBCCI President Sheikh Fazle Fahim also said BVCI (Bilateral Value Chain Initiative TM may be explored in Blue Economy, energy and infrastructure development including renewable energy (solar, marine, tidal, etc.) are also some of the highly prospective areas for joint venture.
He said FBCCI will connect Maldives Association of Financial Institution with its counterpart in Bangladesh for potential collaboration.
