The two-day upward trend the stock market had enjoyed over the news of a meeting between the regulatory body, Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC), and the big investors came crumbling down on Wednesday with a sharp fall.

After 9 consecutive days of decline, stock market investors were beginning to get hopeful amid a positive market witnessed in the last two business days.

But the index fell more than it had in one day on Wednesday, as much as it had risen in the previous two positive sessions. So, investors are disappointed by this.

All stock market indices fell on Wednesday. Along with this, most of the companies shares and unit prices and turnover also decreased.

At the end of the day, DSEX, the main index of the DSE, decreased over 74 points or 1.21 percent to 6,038.

Among other indices, the shariah-based DSES fell by 14.13 points or 1.05 percent and the blue-chip DS-30 decreased by 27.17 points or 1.24 percent.

On the day, the DSE had a turnover of Tk 778.43 crore today, which is Tk 59.62 crore less than the previous session.

Shares of the 380 companies traded on the day, of which only 17 firms gained, 338 issues lost and 25 companies remained unchanged.

The textile sector rose to the top position in terms of transactions. The total turnover in this sector was Tk 132.6 crore, which is 27.79 percent of the total turnover.

The engineering sector was at the second position with Tk 56.5 crore turnover, followed by pharmaceuticals and chemicals sector at Tk 43.87 crore.

Shares of KDS Accessories were the most-traded by value on the DSE as its shares worth Tk 30.14 crore were traded on the day.

Matin Spinning, which was the second most-traded stock, had a turnover of Tk 27.08 crore followed by Beximco Limited, Square Textile, Kattali Textile, Titas Gas, Beximco Pharma, IPDC Finance, Orion Infusion and BATBC.

Meanwhile, the overall index CASPI of the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) decreased over 170 points to 17,801 and securities worth Tk 13.44 crore were traded on the day.
