The first section of the Dhaka Metro Rail from Uttara’s Diabari to Agargaon will open on December 16, Victory Day, this year.
He said this while inspecting the Metro Rail depot at Diabari in the capital on Wednesday afternoon. Top officials of the project, including its Managing Director MAN Siddique, were present at the time.
The total length of the section from Agargaon to Uttara is 11.73 km. There are nine stations on this route.
During the visit, the planning minister said, "I believe in our system. I have confidence in our staff, engineers, those who are working. With that confidence, we say, they are also citizens of this country; they also have patriotism. We want to inaugurate the first section of the Metro Rail up to Agargaon on Victory Day.”
The Metro Rail project is being implemented by state-owned Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL).
MAN Siddique said work on the project is moving ahead with plans to officially inaugurate the first Metro Rail in Bangladesh on December 16, 2021 — the 50th anniversary of independence.
“If there was no coronavirus crisis, the progress of the work would have increased,” he added.
