The government is set to appoint South Korean flagship joint-venture firm Yooshin-Heerim a consultant for drawing and designing of the MAG Osmani International Airport in Sylhet, officials concerned said.
The project is going to be implemented under the first revision of development through direct purchase, an official of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism said.
The proposal will be placed in the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affair on Wednesday. Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal will chair the meeting.
According to the proposal, the new design is not included in the first revision for the development of the Sylhet airport which is only 0.30 percent or Tk 7.05 crore of the total cost.
It is an expensive and time-consuming process and the drawing and designing consultant will be appointed through a competitive system. As a result, the project implementation will be delayed, read the proposal.
The whole project will face a setback if the S Korean JV company, which did the architectural design of the terminal building in 2020, is not appointed, said an official of the ministry.
The terminal building and basement of the airport will be extended in the revised plan. So, a new design and drawing map is needed, the official said.
The expansion work of the airport started in October 2020 at a cost of Tk 2,760 crore.
Chinese construction company Beijing Urban Construction Group (BUCG) has constructed a cargo terminal, air traffic control tower, passenger boarding bridge, packing apron, taxiway, car parking zone and link roads at the country’s third-largest airport in the last three years.
