NBR extends tax return submission time-limit till Jan 1

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has once again extended the tax return submission deadline to January 1, 2023.

Earlier on November 30, the NBR extended the income tax return submission time frame by a month following applications of taxpayers from different trade bodies and companies.

The deadline has been extended as December 30 and 31 are weekends, according to a disclosure of the NBR made on Wednesday.

Around 22 lakh returns submitted their income tax return till November 29, according to official data of the NBR.

Many new taxpayers are willing to submit their income returns this year and a good number of taxpayers sought an extension of the time, NBR Chairman Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem has said.

He said the income tax return submission process is being simplified so that people can pay taxes in a hassle-free system.

Those who have taxable income must submit returns, otherwise, the relevant law will be enforced to pay income tax, he said.

Earlier on October 26, the NBR declared November as the 'Tax Service Month' in a bid to facilitate the taxpayers to submit their returns as well as availing various tax-related services.
