The government on Monday increased edible oil prices by Tk4 a litre, a move that will affect consumers in the fasting month of Ramadan.
From now on a litre of bottled edible oil will be sold at Tk139 and non-bottled oil at Tk117 at retail level, according to a decision made by the commerce ministry.
Earlier on February 17, the commerce ministry in consultation with the refiners and traders set the price of a litre of bottled oil at Tk 135 and non-bottled at Tk 115 for the consumers.
“We have just adjusted the prices in line with the international market,” Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi told reporters.
“We will revise the price down once it goes down on the international market,” he added.
As per the revised pricing, a 5-litre bottled edible oil can be sold at maximum Tk660, up by Tk30 from the previously-set price.
