Stocks inch up, turnover declines

Dhaka stocks nudged slightly higher amid a decline in trading volume, after profit-taking fall in the previous session.

On Monday, DSEX, the benchmark index of Dhaka Stock Exchange, gained 3.68 points or 0.07 percent to close at 4,871. The index hit intraday high of 4,881 points and intraday low of 4,862.

DSES Index rose 8.37 points or 0.75 percent to end at 1122 and DS30 Index was slightly up by 0.27 points or 0.01 percent to 1696.

Trading activities remained low as daily volumes decreased to shares worth Tk 790 crore as compared to almost Tk 1,200 crore traded on Sunday.

Out of total 351 active scrips, 111 closed in positive and 154 in negative while the value of 86 stocks remained unchanged.

Beximco Pharmaceuticals was the volume leader with shares worth Tk 45.65 crore, followed by Square Pharmaceuticals (Tk 30.61 crore), Asia Insurance (Tk 21.24 crore), AB Bank First Mutual Fund (Tk 18.24 crore) and Eastern Insurance ( Tk 17.72 crore).

Quasem Industries was the top gainer increasing by 9.97 percent to Tk 45.2 per share after the company reported that its EPS stood at Tk 0.98 for July-September 2020 compared to Tk 0.39 recorded a year ago.

The newly listed company Associated Oxygen Limited was the top loser with a drop of 8.7 percent to Tk 56.6 a share. The company made its trading debut on October 25.
