Dhaka (Dec 9, 2020): Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi on Wednesday launched a new $40 million fund under the Export Competitiveness for Jobs (EC4J) project for infrastructure investments to create around 90,000 fresh jobs and boost exports.

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi came up with an announcement in this regard while addressing a virtual programme where Commerce Secretary Md Jafar Uddin, representatives from the World Bank, and business leaders from the concerned sectors attended.

Around $40 million fund will be expanded in four industry sectors on priority basis to boost the export volume in the global market, the minister said.

Alongside the readymade garment sector, priority has been given to the leather and leather goods, light engineering and plastic sectors for generation job opportunity, he said.

The Ministry of Commerce has undertaken the project where the World Bank will provide its financial assistance to make it successful, Tipu Munsi said.

Claiming that the export volume of Bangladesh is marching forward, he said the present business friendly government has taken numerous measures to compete the competitive export market, he said.

While addressing a knowledge sharing workshop on “Public Investment Facility for Infrastructure Constraints (PIFIC),” held at the Economic Reporters Forum (ERF) Auditorium in the capital yesterday, he also called upon the businesses to take the opportunity of the PIFIC to increase the country export volume.
