Bangla Academy proposes to postpone 2021 book fair

The Bangla Academy has proposed to postpone the upcoming Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2021 due to the pandemic.
A proposal in this regard has been sent to the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Director General (DG) of Bangla Academy Poet Habibullah Siraji confirmed.
“I have sent a proposal to the concerned ministry not to hold a book fair amid the coronavirus pandemic. If the ministry gives its approval, it will be effective,” he said.
The director general said they would know the decision by Sunday or Monday.
According to the Bangla Academy, books worth Tk82 crore were sold at the Amar Ekushey Book Fair-2020 and some 4,919 new books were published. Bangla Academy published 41 of those new books.
At the Suhrawardy Udyan and Bangla Academy sections, a total of 873 units or stalls were allotted to 560 institutions last year.
