Nipun becomes BFAA gen secy as Zayed Khan disqualified

In a dramatic appeal decision, actress Nasrin Akter Nipunhas been elected as the general secretary of the Bangladesh Film Artistes' Association (BFAA).

The association’s appellate board also cancelled the candidature of Zayed Khan, who was re-elected in the position in the first count. Executive panel member Chunnu also lost his candidacy.

‎The announcement was made Saturday by Sohanur Rahman Sohan, chairman of the appellate board BFAA. ‎

The decision was taken as he was found guilty of violating the code of conduct under section 10 of the election rules.

According to the baord, two witnesses admitted to taking money from Zayed Khan in exchange for votes.‎

A meeting of the appeal board was called at 5:00pm. The meeting was scheduled to be attended by Nipun, accused Zayed Khan, the new president of the association Iliash Kanchan, Chunnu and the two election commissioners.

However, Zayed Khan did not show up for the meeting. ‎

Earlier on January 28, Zayed Khan was re-elected general secretary for 2022-24 term in BFAA election.

However, Nipun lodged a written application for a recount of votes to the appeal board the next day.
