Dhaka Padatik’s ’Trial of Surya Sen’ at BSA on Saturday

Dhaka Padatik, one of the leading theatre groups in the country, will stage the 39th show of their play, Trial of Surya Sen, at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in Dhaka on Saturday.

The show will be held at the Experimental Theatre Hall of the BSA around 7 pm on the day.

Dhaka Padatik brought the drama to life on stage by vividly portraying the farcical trial and murder of Master Da Surya Sen, a hero of the anti-British movement.

Based on the anti-British movement, the Trial of Surya Sen was produced under the composition and direction of Masum Aziz.

Following his demise, actor Nader Chowdhury has taken on the role of director for the new project.

Nader Chowdhury said that the Trial of Surya Sen is a historical drama centered on the anti-British movement.

“It was originally composed and directed by late Masum Aziz Bhai. But later, I brought some changes by embellishing some parts of the play as needed. Master Da Surya Sen is the main character of this play which I have adapted. This historical drama should be seen by our younger generation,” he said.

There are a total of 40 characters in the play and its main characters include Surya Sen, Pritilata, Kalpana Dutta, Ambika Chakravarti, Lokenath Bal and Nirmalsen, British advocate, Bangali advocate, etc.

Nader Chowdhury, Mahbuba Haque Kumkum, Milton Ahmed, Hasna Hena Shilpi, Mahabubur Rahman Tony, Sabiha Zaman, Shyamal Hasan, Kazi Aminur, Akhter Hossain and others are portraying these characters.

The inaugural exhibition of the play was held on January 18, 2018.
