The country’s stock market plunged into red terrain on Monday, snapping a four-session winning streak with all indices falling on both bourses of the country.

Along with this, the amount of money from transactions decreased and most of the stocks’ prices remained unchanged.

Trading in Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) started on the day with positive movements of most of the stocks.

As a result, the key index of DSE increased by 2 points compared to the previous day. But within a short time, the list of price drops grew which continued till the end of the transaction.

At the end of the day, DSEX, the benchmark index of DSE decreased by 22 points or 0.35 percent to settle the day at 6,393.

Among other indices, the shariah-based DSES fell by 4 points or 0.30 percent and the blue-chip DS-30 was down by 12 points or 0.57 percent.

The amount of money traded in DSE was Tk 1,235 crore, which is Tk 40 crore less than the previous working day.

Shares of the 354 companies traded on the day, of which 48 firms gained, 98 issues lost and 208 companies remained unchanged.

The IT sector rose to the top position in terms of transactions. The total turnover in this sector was Tk 243.6 crore, which is 21.57 percent of the total turnover.

The pharmaceuticals and chemicals sector was at the second position with Tk 178.75 crore turnover, followed by miscellaneous sector at Tk 101.35 crore.

Shares of Genex Infosys were the most-traded by value on the DSE as its shares worth Tk 86.48 crore were traded on the day.

Orion Pharma, which was the second most-traded stock, had a turnover of Tk 60.60 crore followed by Eastern Housing, IT Consultants, Bashundhara Paper Mills, Navana Pharmaceuticals, LRBDL, BSC, JHRML and Anwar Galvanizing.

Meanwhile, the overall index CASPI of the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) decreased over 39 points to 18,879 and securities worth Tk 22.48 crore were traded on the day.
