Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

Country's both the bourses-- Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) – on Sunday plunged due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities.

DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went down by 23.99 points or 0.44 percent to 5,482.79, reports BSS.

Two other indices also ended sharply lower with the DSE 30 Index, comprising blue chips, plunged 5.24 points to finish at 1,937.11 and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) lost 4.83 points to close at 1,202.70.

Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, decreased to Taka 6,222.59 million, which was Taka 6,642.89 million in the previous session of the week.

Out of 397 issues traded, 297 declined, 70 advanced and 30 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

FARCHEM was the day's top gainer, posting a 9.76 percent gain while SONALILIFE was the worst loser, losing 3 percent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended sharply lower with the CSE All Share Price Index - CASPI -losing 96.54 points to settle at 15,661.07 and the Selective Categories Index - CSCX shedding 59.48 points to close at 9,425.73.

Of the issues traded, 165 declined, 46 advanced and 17 issues remained unchanged on the CSE.

The port city's bourse traded 21.70 lakh shares and mutual fund units with a turnover value worth about Tk 8.37 crore.
