Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

Country's both the bourses-- Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE)—on Wednesday plunged due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities.

DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went down by 95.66 points or 1.76 percent to 5,350.83, reports BSS.

Two other indices also ended sharply lower with the DSE 30 Index, comprising blue chips, plunged 37.28 points to finish at 1,908.52 and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) lost 21.87 points to close at 1,169.56.

Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, decreased to Taka 1,593.77 million, which was Taka 3,715.23 million at the previous session of the week.

Out of 390 issues traded, 355 declined, 20 advanced and 15 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

TECHNODRUG was the day's top gainer, posting a 10 percent gain while KOHINOOR was the worst loser, losing 3 percent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended sharply lower with the CSE All Share Price Index - CASPI -losing 207.56 points to settle at 15,359.03 and the Selective Categories Index - CSCX shedding 126.84 points to close at 9,244.32.

Of the issues traded, 126 declined, six advanced and 10 issues remained unchanged on the CSE trading floor.

The port city's bourse traded 8.19 lakh shares and mutual fund units with turnover value worth about Tk 2.52 crore.
