Farida for ensuring eggs, poultry at affordable price

Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter on Saturday urged traders to ensure an uninterrupted supply of eggs and poultry, saying that those must be reached at consumers level at an affordable price.
“Efforts should be made to reduce the cost of production so that the consumers get eggs and poultry at an affordable price,” she said while addressing a seminar as the chief guest, reports BSS.
Bangladesh chapter of World's Poultry Science Association (WPSA) organized the seminar on “Cost Effective and Sustainable Poultry Production” in a city hotel, said a ministry press release.
The adviser said they understand that many farms have been shut due to floods, while production has decreased but demand has not decreased.
In this circumstance, she urged the traders to sell eggs and poultry at an affordable price at the consumer level.
“We don’t want to import eggs under any circumstances,” said the adviser, mentioning that disease-germs will enter through the import resulting the poultry industry will be suffered.
Urging all concerned to work together for the development and expansion of the poultry industry, she noted that a significant part of the people’s daily dietary protein is met from this industry.
Farida Akhter said that the poultry industry is playing an important role in the economic development of the country alongside social development and employment generation.
Fisheries and Livestock Secretary Sayeed Mahmood Belal Haider and Director General of the Directorate of Livestock Dr. Mohammad Reyazul Haque were present.
WPSA’s Bangladesh Chapter President Mosiur Rahman chaired the seminar attendeed by teachers-researchers-stakeholders, among others.
