Price fall in large-cap pulls stocks down

The country's both the bourses -- Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) - today plunged due to mainly a price fall in large-cap securities.

The benchmark index DSEX settled 33.61 points down at 5,624.50. Two other indices of the DSE also ended lower. Of them, DSE 30, comprising blue chips, plunged 9.57 points to finish at 2,053.36 and DSE Shariah Index (DSES) lost 7.37 points to close at 1,263.73.

Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, increased to Tk 5,039.04 million, which was Tk 4,813.19 million at the previous session of the week, reports BSS.

Out of 395 issues traded, 196 declined, 157 advanced and 42 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

PRAGATILIF topped the turnover chart, followed by GP, MJLBD, BRACBANK and SIBL.

SPCL was the day's top gainer, posting 9.76 per cent gain, while DESCO was the worst loser, losing 7.56 per cent.

Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended sharply lower with CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) losing 106.20 points to settle at 15,659.66 and the Selective Categories Index (CSCX) shedding 63.16 points to close at 9,504.21.

Of the issues traded, 140 declined, 64 advanced and 24 issues remained unchanged on the CSE trading floor.

The port city's bourse traded 44.43 lakh shares and mutual fund units with the turnover value worth about Taka 17.64 crore.
