Women need to be included in decision making process to build a better world, said speakers at a seminar on Monday

In the last few decades women’s participation in formal, informal sector, small and medium size enterprise, and entrepreneurship have drastically increased, they said, adding, yet they often get excluded from decision making process.

UN Women has set women in leadership to achieve an equal future in a COVID-19 world as the theme of International Women’s Day which is directly related to women’s participation in decision making, the speakers argued, said a press release.

“If women cannot take part in decision making how will they come in leadership and build a better world,” asked VOICE, a human rights organisation, which arranged the seminar in its Civic Centre in the city.

The seminar was attended by eminent writers, activists, journalists, CSOs, filmmakers, women and youth groups. Dr Sydea Aireen Jaman from PEN international-Bangladesh, Hasan Mahmud, editor of weekly magazine Purbapar, women activist Musfika Laiju, independent film maker Aparajita Sangeeta and development activist Ayesha Siddika Asha spoke on the occasion as panel speakers.

The seminar was moderated by Ahmed Swapan Mahmud, executive director of VOICE, and keynote presentation was delivered by Sadia Rahman, media manager of VOICE.
