New ACC Chairman Moinuddin Abdullah joins office

Moinuddin Abdullah, a former senior secretary to the Agriculture Ministry, took charge as the new chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Wednesday.
He is replacing Iqbal Mahmud whose term expires on Mar 13.
Md Jahurul Haque, former chairman of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) also joined the ACC today as a commissioner.
They were welcomed by the commission’s Secretary Dr Md Anwar Hossain Howlader at the ACC headquarters in Dhaka's Segunbagicha around 11:15am. They were taken to their respective offices after meeting senior officials of ACC.
Later, the newly-appointed chairman spoke to reporters waiting outside.
“Our goal will be to build a corruption free country and society,” he said. “There are specific laws to curb corruption. We will try to enforce them perfectly."
Responding to a question, the chairman said ACC would continue its efforts to reduce the delay in investigations.
When specifically asked about the delay in Basic Bank case, he said,” We only joined today. We need to know why the investigation of these cases is being delayed. Then we can talk about them."
The government appointed Moinuddin Abdullah and Jahurul Haque to their new roles on Mar 3.
