DGHS urges govt to continue lockdown for more days

The Directorate General of Health Service (DGHS) wants continuation of the ongoing nationwide lockdown for more days after August 5 in a bid to contain the spread and transmission of the coronavirus in the country.
“I made the suggestion during a Cabinet meeting in this regard 10 days ago but the government did not take any decision till now,” ABM Khurshid Alam, director general of the DGHS, told the media on Friday.
“The situation will go from bad to worse and there is no doubt in this regard then how will we tackle the situation and where will we accommodate the patients,” he expressed his concern.
“Considering the prevailing situation I made the suggestion to continue the lockdown after August 5,” Alam said.
to the government decision, the ongoing nationwide 14-day lockdown is scheduled to end on August 5.
The ongoing lockdown entered eight day and the country saw 239 more deaths caused by coronavirus in the last 24 hours till Thursday morning.
Besides, 15,271 new people came out Covid positive during the period after testing 52,282 samples during the same period.
The country has been seeing nearly 200 deaths a day for the past two weeks, shattering the records of daily cases and deaths almost every other day.
