PM Hasina pays Tk 16,400 as toll to cross Padma Bridge

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid the first toll at the Padma Bridge while crossing it towards the Jajira point on Saturday.

The premier paid Tk 16,400 as toll while crossing the bridge. Of the amount, she paid Tk 750 for her own car and the rest for 18 vehicles of her motorcade, according to an official of the bridge’s toll plaza.

Earlier in the day, the premier opened the historic Padma Multipurpose Bridge.

She pressed a switch to inaugurate the bridge after attending a civic rally at the Mawa point of Munshiganj.

After the formal inauguration of the bridge, PM Hasina attended a public rally at Jajira end of Madaripur by crossing the bridge that stands over the mighty river Padma with its own dignity.

Though the bridge was inaugurated on Saturday, it will be allowed for vehicular movement from 6am on Sunday.  

Earlier on Friday, the bridge authorities plied some passenger vehicles on the bridge on an experimental basis.
