Freeing up public property

For the second consecutive day on Monday, the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) is conducting an eviction drive on the bank of the Buriganga River in Dhaka to recover its land from the clutches of Dhaka-7 lawmaker Haji Salim. During the drive which started around 11am, illegal structures built encroaching upon the BIWTA land, from the areas adjacent to the Babubazar Bridge to Shoarighat, have been demolished. Earlier, on Sunday, three acres of land in Waiz Ghatt and Badamtali areas were recovered from Salim's possessions.
