Nobody dared to raise voice against him even a few days back because of his strong connection with powerful quarters. But things have changed now after the arrest of Monir Hossain, also known as ‘Golden Monir’. On Sunday, a group of people formed a human chain in the capital’s Merul Badda, demanding that the authorities concerned return their plots acquired by Monir through a forgery of documents. The protesters also demanded that the authorities concerned change the name of a school built by Monir on a piece of Rajuk (Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha) land. Later, the demonstrators also blocked a side of the Rampur road for a while to realise their demand. Earlier, during a press briefing on 21 November, the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) announced that the elite force during an overnight raid had arrested gold trader Monir from his Merul Badda residence with illegal arms and drugs. Monir owns over 200 plots of land in several areas of Dhaka through a forgery of documents in collusion with corrupt Rajuk officials, Rab then told the briefing.
