Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam has asked the authorities concerned to end the Pahela Baishakh celebration programmes by 2pm.
Shafiqul Islam said this on Tuesday at a press briefing after visiting the security arrangements in and around the city’s Ramna Batamul area ahead of Bengali New Year.
He said Chhayanaut was asked to end the celebration progammes by 11am and the concerned authorities were asked to wind up fair at Raman by 2pm so that people can easily have their Iftar after getting out from fair place.
Several check posts will be set up at Ramna Park, Suhrawardy Udyan, TSC, Dhaka University and some other strategic points in the area, he said adding no vehicles will be allowed during the programmes.
The entire area will remain under the CCTV surveillance and it will be examined thoroughly today and tomorrow. SWAT and bomb disposal units will be deployed in the area, he said.
