Lankan finance minister leaves for talks with IMF

A delegation led by Sri Lankan Finance Minister Ali Sabri left the island on Sunday for discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Finance Minister Ali Sabri, Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka Dr Nandalal Weerasinghe and Secretary to the Ministry of Finance Mahinda Siriwardena were scheduled to visit the IMF headquarters at Washington DC, in the USA.
And the talks are scheduled will take place from April 19- 24, according to media reports.
If discussions with the IMF are successful, Sri Lanka is expected to receive approximately USD 4 billion as loan assistance.
Sri Lanka, the island nation, is facing the worst economic crisis in its history since independence. Now, the nation is witnessing shortages of essential goods while there are regular power cuts causing immense hardship to its 22 million people.
The public protest is intensifying everyday seeking resignation of the present government.
