Barishal most expensive team, Dhaka third in BPL 2022

The eighth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) will start on January 21 next year. The players' draft of this T20 tournament was held on December 27.

Dhaka recruited Mahmudullah Riyad from outside the draft. Later they included Tamim Iqbal and Mashrafe bin Mortaza in their team. Shakib Al Hasan was included before the draft by Fortune Barisal. Later, they recruited Chris Gayle on the day of the draft, while Khulna bagged Mushfiqur.

The six franchise teams have spent around Tk 25 crore 3 lakh 9 thousand on the players so far. Fortune Barishal is currently the most expensive team.

Fortune Barishal (Tk 4 crore 97 lakh 50 thousand)

Fortune Barisal signed Shakib Al Hasan before the Draft. As he is a ‘A’ category player, he will get Tk 70 lakh. They spent Tk 3 crore 57 lakh to bag 13 other local players. After recruiting the foreign players their total cost is Tk 4 crore 96 lakh 50 thousand.

Comilla Victorians (Tk 4 crore 96 lakh 85 thousand)

Comilla Victorians are in the second position. They recruited Mostafizur Rahman in the 'A' category in a direct contract with a salary of Tk 70 lakh. 

They included three foreign players - Faf du Plessis, Moin Ali and Sunil Narine in the direct contract. But their wages are still unknown. The two times winner included 14 local players with direct contracts and spent around Tk 4 crore 96 lakh 85 thousand on the players' salaries.

Dhaka (Tk 4 crore 88 lakh 95 thousand)

Team Dhaka is decorated with three former national team captains. All three are categorised as ‘A’. therefore, they all will get Tk 70 lakh each.

They included three foreign players in direct contracts and recruited 12 local players as well. In total they spent Tk 4 crore 8 lakh 95 thousand. 

Sylhet Sunrisers (Tk 4 crore 5 lakh 19 thousand)

Taskin Ahmed was recruited by Sylhet Sunrisers. As he is in category ‘A’, he will get Tk 70 lakh. They bagged a total of 13 local cricketers. The salary of local cricketers in Sylhet is Tk 2 crore 98 lakh.

They have three foreign players in their team but the amount of wages is still unknown. So far, they spent Tk 4 crore 5 lakh 19 thousand and are fourth in the race.

Khulna Tigers (Tk 3 crore 42 lakh 45 thousand)

Khulna drew Mushfiqur Rahim in the 'A' category in a direct contract. Khulna have also included Sri Lankan all-rounder Thisara Perera, batsman Vanuka Rajapakse and Afghanistan's Naveen Ul Haq in direct contracts. 

So far, they have spent Tk 2 crore 91 lakh to bag 10 local players. And in total, they spent a total of Tk 3 crore 42 lakh 45 thousand.

Chattogram Challengers (Tk 3 crore 41 lakh 60 thousand)

The Chittagong Challengers recruited Nasum Ahmed before the draft in the 'B' category on a direct contract. They included foreign players, like - Benny Howell, Will Jacques, Kennar Lewis. Including direct contact they drew 11 local players. 

The cost of local players in Chittagong will be Tk 2 crore 73 lakh. In total they have spent Tk 3 crore 41 lakh 60 thousand on players’ salary.
