It was a perfect start for Bangladesh though they lost three wickets inside eight overs and lost their skipper Shakib Al Hasan just after the drinks break in the all-important clash against Sri Lanka at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Thursday.
After winning the toss, the Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka asked the Tigers to bat first. In the first over Bangladesh collected 11 runs while just three in the second over. However, n the third over, Asitha Fernando removed Sabbir Rahman who scored just five runs.
Sabbir went for a pull with a lack of footwork, but he was cramped for room. A thick top edge was induced and the keeper completes the formalities.
Meanwhile, Mehidy Hasan Miraz was looking really sharp in the middle. He smashed two boundaries and the same number of over-boundaries to make 38 off 26 deliveries before leaving the crease.
Wanindu Hasaranga’s googly did the trick. Miraz attempted a slog sweep but missed and the stumps had been rattled.
Post that, Mushfiqur Rahim came in the middle but he did not survive long and departed without doing any damage.
Mushfiqur tried to hit the ball down to the third man but he ended up nicking it behind the keeper. Chamika Karunaratne was the wicket taker.
Shakib was looking good but he walked back to the pavilion after making 24 off 22 balls. Maheesh Theekshana bowled the off-break at the stumps, Shakib missed the line and the ball hit the stumps.
After the end of 13 overs, Bangladesh were 103 for four. Afif Hossain and Mahmudullah Riyad were in the middle.
