Hamza Choudhury, a Bangladeshi-origin English footballer, has said he is open to playing for Bangladesh. He also admitted that he would be "proud" and "honoured" to represent Bangladesh.

He revealed this in an interview with Anwar Uddin MBE, an English retired footballer and assistant manager at National League side Aldershot Town. British media published the interview. When he was asked about playing football for Bangladesh,  Choudhury said, "Yeah I think so, I definitely think so."

"I want to see how well I do in the next couple of years, but I'd be more than proud, more than honoured to go and play for Bangladesh, and almost have more of a reach, going back there more regularly," he added.

The midfielder also mentioned that he feels a strong connection to his roots in Bangladesh’s Sylhet region and wants to give his children the chance to spend some time in the country.

"At first I was surprised, I got a lot of good wishes from Bangladesh for my success. I got a lot of support from them."

"If you do something good, everyone from the country would support you. My mother would stay up all night because my aunts and cousins would call from Bangladesh.

"The love of the fans in Bangladesh really opened my eyes to how much opportunity you have as a professional footballer, especially as a South Asian footballer. I feel a strong connection and want to use it. I want to use my experiences in Bangladesh football."
